Exciting News: EDCMT is Becoming a Nonprofit
We are thrilled to announce that the Eating Disorder Center of Montana (EDCMT) is transitioning to become a nonprofit organization. This is an exciting step forward for us, and we’re hopeful about the opportunities this will bring for both our center and the community we serve. We want to take a moment to address any questions you may have about this change, how it will affect your treatment, and how we will use the support of our community to further our mission.
Why Are We Becoming a Nonprofit?
As a nonprofit, we will be able to direct all our resources toward our mission: providing compassionate, comprehensive care for those struggling with eating disorders. Our goal is to expand our ability to support our patients and continue growing the services that make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who walk through our doors.
This change is not just a shift in our organizational structure, but a step toward strengthening the foundation of what we offer—both now and in the future.
How Will Becoming a Nonprofit Affect Our Patients?
This is one of the most important questions we considered when making the decision to become a nonprofit. After thoughtful discussions with our legal team, insurance biller, financial team, and leadership, we can confidently say that the transition will not affect the care or services we provide to you.
Here’s what will remain unchanged:
- All current programs and services will continue: This includes our subsidized housing, outpatient programming, intensive outpatient programming (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), virtual programming, and services at our Bozeman and Missoula locations.
- Insurance billing will remain the same: We will continue to bill your insurance for the services we provide, ensuring that you can still use your insurance coverage as before.
Our focus will remain on delivering the highest quality of care and support throughout your recovery journey, and we are committed to maintaining the services you rely on.
What Will Change in the Future?
While the transition to nonprofit status won’t change our programs immediately, we are excited about the possibilities for future growth and improvement:
- Expansion of services: Over time, we hope to expand our care offerings. This may include more specialized programs for adolescents, additional levels of care, and free educational programs such as our Caregiver Program.
- Improved facilities: We are looking into ways to improve and possibly expand our physical locations to make treatment more accessible to patients across Montana.
- Increased financial assistance: One of our biggest goals is to create a Patient Care Fund to support patients with the hidden costs of treatment, such as rent, car payments, travel expenses, or clothing in new sizes. We understand that the financial burden of treatment can extend beyond the cost of services, and we want to offer support where it’s needed most.
- Scholarships and expanded access: Many of our patients are insured through plans that do not fully cover the cost of the higher levels of care we offer. By transitioning to a nonprofit, we hope to establish scholarships that will provide financial relief for patients whose insurance doesn’t cover their care, or for those who cannot afford treatment independently.
Looking Toward the Future
Many of these exciting goals will take time, and some may be a few years down the road. However, we are deeply optimistic about the future of EDCMT and the possibilities that lie ahead. With the continued support of our community—our patients, staff, donors, and partners—we believe that together, we can turn these goals into reality.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve you, and we are excited for the next chapter in our journey to provide the best care possible to those who need it most.
